I am pleased to present to you these fabulous early micro mosaics which are comprised of the finest tesserae, a feature of very early 19th century micro mosaics. I believe that the photos speak of the incredible intricate detail. They were almost certainly crafted in Italy. It was common to purchase micro mosaic jewelry when one was in Italy during their "Grand Tour" of Europe. The earliest pieces were painstakingly crafted using thousands of tiny bits of glass, as these were. As time went on, the tesserae became larger and the designs less detailed. The frames are 18k gold (tested). The onyx background has cracks, which is common in these antique pieces, but my jeweler tells me the mosaics are stable. At one point they were converted to post earrings. I have pictured a pair of antique earrings from the mid Victorian era which would work well with these earrings if you would like to have them dangle as they would have originally. They are 14k gold and close from front to back. Please inquire about purchasing them separately, since these earrings are on consignment. Although not in a rush to sell these earrings, my consignor is willing to consider offers.
