This is an exceptional example of the Arts and Crafts period of American art pottery, a dark mauve-colored signed Van Briggle onion bulb vase with textured onion design motif in their classic mulberry glaze. It has a small open mouth and narrow neck, widening toward the bottom for a pear-shaped piece of art. This is a functional and beautiful vase, in a special color that is sure to please any collector or art lover.
This is a pre-1940s Van Briggle design. Van Briggle Art Pottery is the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States. It was established in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. The vase is in great vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, namely very minor crazing throughout consistent with age, as visible in photographs.
The mouth measures 2 inches wide in diameter. The vase stands 4 1/2 inches tall in total, and the base is about 3 1/4 inches wide.
