This is an antique brooch, an outstanding and stunning example of Vienna Secession style jewelry from the 1910s era, with gorgeous enamel work and the amazing natural imagery of two white doves against a blue background. This piece is almost surreal in scope, with its sensuous enamel hues of blue, white, red, and yellow. The brass outlines of the design emphasize a sense of elegance yet subversive asymmetricality and subtly boundary-pushing surrealism for which the Viennese Secession movement is known and loved. The symbolism of two doves is traditionally meant to signify love, fidelity, and peace. Reminding of a glimmering and imaginative Gustav Klimt painting, this brooch is a special and lovely addition to any collection of the gorgeous, artful, and historic jewelry of this period in art and adornment.
The pin is a slightly asymmetrical rounded rectangle done in brass with a twisted wire hinge pin back. The back of the pin is signed by the artist or designer, however through our exhaustive research we have been unable to successfully attribute artist or origin to the piece, though we have classified it as a likely contemporary of the Weiner Werkstätte community.
It measures 2 inches long and 1 inch wide. It is in excellent antique condition with minor age-appropriate wear such as some scuffing to the brass back as well as an unfortunate instance of enamel loss on the top left corner of the piece. The brooch maintains incredible antique integrity.
