This is a vintage 1950s era MCM lamp that we have attributed to Louis Christiaan Kalff, the sought after Dutch designer, as a part of his rare series designed for Phillips lighting in the 1950s. The lamp is a bold and artful yet simple and functional design, which is the hallmark of these renowned modernist designers of the mid century postwar era. This piece is a gorgeous accent lamp for a table or desk, with a gold tone cylinder stem and a sleek matte black shade. The shade features a gold-tone circular cap on the top, tying together the shapes and tones energetically of the whole piece from top to bottom.
The lamp is sleek and modern with an era-specific tone one can only find in these thoughtful and unique vintage pieces. The lamp is not signed and has no identifying stickers or labels, so we are confidently attributing this piece to Louis Kalff without fully declaring it as his design.
The lamp is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear as visible in the photographs, namely some scuffing, rubbing, paint loss, and patina consistent with age and use.
It measures 16 inches tall in total. The shade is 13 1/2 inches wide across in diameter, and 3 inches thick. The base is 7 inches across in diameter. It has functional wiring and is wired for American use.
