This is an Edwardian Enamel Guilloche Brooch with some amazing history. It is decorated with a lovely creamy ivory background and an raised emblem in the center. The emblem is a double headed eagle with a crown. In the center of the eagle is a triangular cartouche with the number 33 inside. With a bit of research we discovered that this is the symbol for the 33rd degree Freemasons. This is the highest degree of freemasonry and is a privilege to reach that degree. The privilege is held by some very famous people in American history such as Benjamin Franklin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon Johnson. Flanking the eagle is a pink rose and green foliage. On the outer edge of the brooch is a gold fleur de lis on each side. The brooch is marked sterling on the back. One has to wonder, was this worn by one of our historical figures, or perhaps given to his sweetheart?
It measures 1 3/4" long x 1" high.
