This is great vintage Elgin American compact with satin and bright gold, and etched floral design. It measures 3-3/8" x 2-3/4", is marked "Elgin American Made In U.S.A.", and is in EXCELLENT condition. This gorgeous vintage Elgin American compact has a really unique shape and beautiful decoration. The company that got its start as The Elgin National Watch Company was founded in the 1880's and began manufacturing compacts as early as the 1930's. Not long after that all the high-end cosmetic houses started carrying these elegant compacts. Elgin was a leader in the compact industry. This beauty has a really great shape that tapers toward the back. As you can see, the lid is decorated with a very pretty patterned floral design. The design is rendered with a shiny gold-colored finish while the rest of the lid has a slightly more matte-finish. This contrast gives the design a really elegant, stand-out look. Open opening the compact, you will find a really nicely-sized mirror which exhibits only a few flea-bite scratches and some very minor clouding. The powder reservoir's lid is decorated with an incredibly elegant engine-turned design while the words "Elgin American, Made in U.S.A." are stamped in the center. A tiny pull-tab on the side opens the reservoir-lid to reveal a nice, clean interior. Though the compact shows some signs of wear and a few minor scuffs here and there, it remains in very good vintage condition overall.
