This is an absolutely gorgeous 1920s Italian hall tree in a stunning, muted celadon green painted with gold, ochre, brown, and magnolia hued chinoiserie patterns with birds and botanical motifs. This piece was likely custom made by a furniture designer (judging from the cartouche on the side of the hall tree) for a clothing atelier in Gallarate, Italy, near Milan, used for retail display or as a part of the dressing and tailoring area of an undoubtedly glamorous couturier.
The hall tree is an amazing combination of aesthetics, with the iconic art deco emphasis on chinoiserie imagery, and the perfect deco color palette. The row of hanging elements are 5 thick lucite disks in a smooth and chic art moderne style, with curved metal hooks and sturdy posts for dual-hanging utility.
The piece has an incredible sense of emotion and utility, and is an example of how furniture and functional design can be artful and breathtaking, a true investment piece for anyone looking to beautify their home. We imagine this would be perfect in a home dressing room/boudoir vanity room or as part of a master bedroom his and hers suite. It would also be gorgeous in a foyer, front room, bedroom, or hallway entrance.
This hall tree is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. There is some paint loss and scuffing around the edges, mainly toward the bottom and around the feet, visible in photographs. No major paint loss on the body of the piece, just minor wear like scuffs or marks consistent with age as pictured, only noticeable under scrutiny.
It measures 73 inches tall, 54 inches wide, and about 2 inches thick.
