This is a lovely antique Victorian era locket pendant in a stunning robin's egg blue turquoise enamel and 10K gold findings. It has a sweet black and white enamel pansy flower on the front with a seed pearl center. Derived from the French verb "penseer" or "to think," the pansy flower came to mean "thinking of you" in the Victorian era language of flowers, especially given as a secret symbol of interest and fancy during a formal courtship. In Victorian jewelry they usually symbolize a suitor or lover, given as a gift during a period of distance or longing, or to commemorate an anniversary or special moment in a relationship.
This locket would be a very sweet piece of gift jewelry for any sort of loved one, especially for someone who loves stories and meanings behind antique jewelry. It adds a pop of color and vibrance that is an interesting way to intertwine the old with the new, and would make a very cool "something blue" gift for a bride at her wedding.
The locket is in excellent antique condition with age-appropriate wear, namely some patina consistent with age and a bit of rubbing of the enamel near the hinge, along with some scuffing to the enamel consistent with use, all visible in photographs.
It measures 1 1/2 inches long and 7/8 inch wide.
