This is an antique Burmese Shan State gilded dry-laquered Buddha head. It is gold and black, with red lips and mother-of-pearl eyes. Most of these were made by farmers in the Shan States of Burma into the early 20th century. It is hollow and mounted on a stand. The ornament atop the Buddha's head, the ushnisha or topknot, is removable as pictured. The ushnisha generally presents as a crown or as a gathering of the Buddha's hair, representing his enlightenment. This piece is in great condition, with expected age-appropriate wear to the lacquer.

The base of the stand measures 6 inches wide by 6 inches long. With the ornament attached and the stand included, the entire piece measures 19 inches tall. The ornament is 5 3/4 inches long. Without the stand, the Buddha measures 15 3/4 inches tall.
