This is a gilt bronze seated Buddha statue c. 1900. The Buddha is seated with legs crossed and hands in the lap, his pose and facial expression are very serene. The right hand is placed atop the left hand with thumbs touching. This is often referred to as the meditation pose which generally represents focused concentration. The eyes of the Buddha are nearly all the way closed and the statue is shaped like a triangle which represents stability. This pose is also known as the Amitabha Buddha which means "boundless light." This Buddha would be perfect for a meditation or prayer room. The measurements are as follows: 14" tall, 11.5" at the widest point, and 10" at the deepest point. It is in excellent vintage condition with patina, wear, and loss to the gilt finish as shown in the pictures.
