Signed "Jacob Guthart * Lebanon" Pennsylvania tall case Clock in Cherry Case circa 1800 to 1820 !
8 Day Brass Movement has been Serviced and Restrung with Nylon Chord for safety on 8-01-21 and is in good running order.
American made Dial is marked from the "Nolan Manufactory * Boston" and measures 17 3/4 inches High, and 12 3/8 inches Wide.
Feet have been replaced at some time.
Movement is original to this case, aka Not a marriage. (Proof ; No thick wood Shims or Double Cut side supports)
Jacob Guthart ; (aka Goodhart) Born 1779. He was apprenticed in the neighboring Berks County prior to coming to Lebanon, Pa. in the year 1800. Replacing Jacob Graff, the County's earliest Clockmaker, on Market Square, at Present day 9th Street between Cumberland and Willow Streets. He was a prolific tall case Clock Maker, and worked until his death in 1867.

Historical Notes ; He was elected "Town Burgess" of Lebanon Borough, equivalent to a Town Mayor by the majority of Pennsylvania Dutch inhabitants , before it became a County Seat around 1812-13 ! Later Elected as Lebanon "County Treasurer" twice, and also a State Legislator. He was survived by a Son who also sold Clocks & Jewelry, but wasn't known to have made any clocks at the same estate.
