Excellent North Attleboro,Mass. Banjo Clock Signed "H. Tifft" on the Dial, with an 8 Day Brass Movement & Original Mahogany Wood Case & Gold Foil Decorated Tablets !!! Horace Tift was the first to make the "North Attleboro" Style of Banjo Clocks, using either Solid Wood Panels, or this type of Black & Gold Foil Glass tablets. Horace Tifft (born 1804) Worked in North Attleboro,Mass. from 1837 to 1861. Then moved to Providence,RI. in 1861.
Undamaged Spun Wood Dial Bezel with Original Old Wavy Glass. Cast Brass Scrolled Side Rails with Diamonds. Original Iron Dial is 7 3/4 inches in diameter. Dial has normal paint chips around both "L" shaped Hold-Downs on edge. Ovoid Cut-Out Hood with cloth Dust Seal at top joint. Rear of wood case has normal in-letting for clearance in the Bushing Areas, originally done to avoid pinion drag. Brass Plates are held together with 4 Turned Brass Posts which were permanently Peened into the back plate, and Pinned to hold the front plate. Awesome Mahogany Case with Spectacular Throat and Door Glass tablets. Solid Cast Brass Gears, with a Brass Keystone Pendulum Frame around the Hand Arbor. Usual Brass Covered, Lead filled Bob. Normal one piece Pine backboard with interior Glue blocks that look good too.
Solid Brass Movement has been Hand Cleaned, Oiled, Inspected, and has Nylon cord for safety. Movement also has 2 Offset rear Mounting Screws, which was common for the period. The side wood brackets come up to support the bottom of the brass movement.
Measures : 33 3/4 inches High. Base of case is 10 inches Wide, and 3 7/8 inches Deep.
