Pre Civil War Period Signed "Tifft" 8 Day Banjo Clock with Original Mahogany Wood Tablets !!! Horace Tift was the first to make the Attleboro Style of Banjo Clocks, using either these Solid Wood Panels, or Black & Gold Foil Glass tablets.

Has the pencil script dated "DEC. 1844" on the back of Dial, Now this pencil date could be a production date, or simply a record of Service after production. Original Acorn Finial atop the all original Mahogany Case with Solid Wood Panels which were popular at this time. Normal Pine back board.

Cast Brass Dial Bezel, and scrolled Side Rails. Original Iron Dial is 7 3/4 inches in diameter. Dial has some obvious paint chips around edges. Ovoid Cut-Out Hood with cloth Dust Seal at top joint. Rear of wood case has been in-letted for better clearance in the Bushing Areas, originally done to avoid pinion drag. Brass Plates are held together with 4 Turned Brass Posts which were permanently Peened into the back plate. and Pinned to hold the front plates. Awesome Mahogany Case with Original Throat and Door Panels which have chamfered back edges. Throat panel has a central wood fracture, as seen in the photos. Solid Cast Brass Gears, with an Iron or Steel Anchor. Keystone Pendulum Frame over Hand Arbor. Usual Brass Covered, Lead filled Bob. Normal one piece Pine backboard. Interior Glue blocks look good too. Minor damage to Bottom board from the weight which had fallen and rounded off some wood around the nail heads. However, the only thing new on this clock is the "Brass hold-down Block" for pendulum, which I have made.

Solid Brass Movement has been Ultrasonically Cleaned, Oiled, Inspected, and has been re-strung with Nylon cord for safety on 1-16-18. Movement also has 2 Offset Mounting Screws, which was common for the period. The side wood brackets support the bottom of the brass movement.

Measures : 32 inches High. Base of case is 10 inches Wide, and 3 3/4 inches Deep.
