Pennsylvania Solid Cherry Tall Case was Circa 1790, then fitted later with an 8 Day Brass Movement & Engraved Dial. Early Style of Pa. Chippendale Tall Case Clock with Flat-Top Bonnet, see the 5th photo which shows the dovetailed construction coming up through the sides of the bonnet case. Case was later refitted with an 8 Day Movement which has a Brass Dial Face, burnished gold and silver dial, and second bits. Brass Dial also has a round maker’s Plaque inside the arch which reads ; “R. Bryson & Sons Edinburgh”

The Brysons were Famous Clockmakers to the Royal Family, and also famous in the world of Scientific instruments too. The business began in the early 19th century with Robert Bryson Sr. (born 1778 *died 1852) was a very competent and inventive maker. Alexander and Robert, his two sons had joined him in business by the 1841 Census. The business then became known as “Bryson & Sons” or just simply Brysons. Alexander was not just a Clockmaker but also an Inventor of all types of apparatus from a device that detected Icebergs to an Improved Aneriod Barometer. A Special Astronomical clock which also tracked the Planets in Real Time at an Observatory at a University. The business carried on through the 19th century with Robert Sr. passing away in 1852, Alexander in 1866 and then Robert junior in 1886. The business then passed into the hands of “Hamilton & Inches” which is still in existence today.
