"G. Luchtenberg Jeweler's" Advertising Clock from Columbus,Ohio within a Large Rosewood "Ionic" Model Case, with Deluxe Brass Pendulum Bob & Gold paint decorated Glass Tablet later marked "J.M.R. * 1881" when sold !!! Largest of the Ionic Clock cases, this E. Ingraham Clock was produced Circa 1870's.
Surviving Original Backboard pencil Inscription (Highlighted on last photo with my ink on paper copy) exclaims that ; "April the 1st. 1881 Bought by (Johnathan) Jno. M. Renner", which proudly explains his initials "J.M.R & 1881" dated on the front glass of the clock, after being used as the Jeweler's Advertising exclaiming "Clocks, Watches, & Diamonds * Sold Here". Gustave Luchtenberg was a Jeweler listed as working in Columbus, Ohio from a couple of different downtown addresses over the years from his arrival in 1860 to America until his Death in 1919.
Condition ; Great Original patina, with a very fine Printed Paper Dial, reverse Gold stenciled Lettering on the lower glass tablet. Brass 8 Day Movement is marked "E. Ingraham* Bristol,Ct." has been removed, Professionally Cleaned & Serviced 8-01-16. Already rebuilt with all new Bushings.
Measurements : Overall 29 inches Long, and 4 1/4 inches Deep. Top diameter is 16 inches Wide, and lower bottom circle is 13 inches Wide. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Historical Notes ; Gustave. Luchtenberg was born about 1835 in Prussia, then emigrated to the US in 1853, and was the owner of the Luchtenberg Jewelry Store at 220 S. High St. in Columbus, in Franklin County Ohio from 1860 until his death in 1919. Also Found in the 1889-1890 Columbus Ohio Directories : Gustave Luchtenberg at 65 S. High Street, and 220 S. High Street with a Home address of 1037 City Park Avenue in Columbus,Ohio..
