Marble Base Centennial Period "Panelled Shield & Stars" Finely Detailed & Frosted Glass Oil Lamp with Etched & Ruffled Top Blown Glass Shade !!! The "Shield & Stars" pattern Oil Lamp was a very popular Patriotic variation for our nations 100th Anniversary Year in 1876.
First you Pull-Off the Shade, then the Chimney & Burner Coronet together to easily light the round wick.
Burner is patent dated & marked on the Thumbwheel ; "Crystal Light Pat. Apr. 15,1859 * Sep.13,1859 * Sept.19,1871" Student Type Burner takes a 2 inch flat wick, also provided, which feeds into the bottom in a "V" shape, and comes out the top as a Round Circle, around a central breather Hole.
Chimney is a marked "McBeth No. 48" as seen in the second last photo.
"Grapes & Vine" Pattern 4 inch Blown Glass Shade with Ruffled top is included free, since it has a tiny burst air bubble fracture on the top edge of a ruffle, as seen in the last close-up photo.
Measurements : Overall 20 inches High from Marble Base to top of Chimney. lamp alone is 10 inches from Base to top of Original Brass Collar. Polished Brass Skirt Stem on Marble Base which is a stable 4 5/8 inches Square.
