Restored "IDEAL * Manufactured by Rochester Optic Company * Rochester,NY. " Tin Darkroom Lantern Circa 1880's !!!
Solid Professional Tinsmith Restoration with round bottom perimeter Replaced. Tin Fount has 2 Lugs for inserting and twisting to lock-in bottom grooves. Originally painted Black with faint Gold Stenciled Lettering on flap. Has 2 original Amber & One Red Wavy colored glass panels. I hand painted the Lantern with 2 Coats of Black. I left the area unpainted on the front adjustable Shade due to a faint, but original, Stenciled Decoration & Lettering which is still exposed. You could have that part artist re-painted, or left as-is. I also left the interior in bare Tin, as found. Rear access Lightproof door closes & latches snugly and the Chimneyless Burner is marked "INDEX" and operates the wick smoothly. The Tank has been chemically sealed internally for safety. There are normal dings and roughness with a slightly uneven fitted exhaust flue from factory production.
Measures : 11 inches High by 5 1/4 inches square.
Weighs : 2 Pounds and 3.8 Ounces.
