Tin Canteen/Flask with Convex Sides with original Zinc Screw Cap & soldered Zinc Spout !!! Circa 1840's to 1861.
Perfect fitting threaded Flanged Zinc Cap & Spout would be considered a Deluxe model versus the more common Cork type tapered spout. The 2 horseshoe shaped Rope Loops also have folded edges to triple their strength ! The side mounted Tin Tubes are rounded which indicates that this was originally designed for a Rope Carrying Strap instead of this later flat leather substitute. It appears that the later field improvised replacement leather strap was from an NCO's sword knot fastened to the grip with the split end, and then a copper wrapped wire on the other end where the Leather Tassel would have been.
Measures between 4 & 3/4 to 5 inches in Diameter, and 2 3/4 inches Deep.
Weighs 6.8 Ounces.
