Miniature Child's Bullseye Signal Lantern with Rare Whale Oil single tube Burner & Tin Fount with Red & Green Signal Lens Filters !!! Circa 1870.
These Miniature "Bullseye Signal Lanterns" were popular with children during the 1870's after the American Civil War. Also British "Signal Corps Lanterns" came into fame which were also Candle or Whale Oil Lanterns. This Whale Oil Powered Example is Complete with the Clear Bullseye Lens in the working hinged door as an magnifying flash light lens, with the Red & Green Filter Lenses which are still internally Mounted and Rotated to change the Light Emitting Colors. Retains traces of original Japanning under the door, and still has it's 2 tiny Wire Bail Carry Handles too !
This model is Bottom Die Stamped : "Made In England".
