Fine Pre-Revolutionary War Cast Iron Fire-Backs were used to protect the Fragile Nature of the early hand produced soft Sun Baked Bricks in the back of the Fireplace. Also to help Reflect Heat out of the fireplace and into the Room. Earliest known pattern from this furnace which is Circa 1760's.
This is a Superb Example of a Neo-Classical Design with Flowing "C" Scroll Borders and a stretched Central Banner with the Furnace Name in raised letters.
Even with a corner broken off it is still usable and Demands Notice to the New Golden Age of America with an Ancient Roman millennium metaphor Link. My interpretation would be "A possible Miss Liberty in the new American English Colony Contemplating Freedom while sitting on the Fallen Monument of the Old English Empire."
Condition : After enduring over 240 Years of "Fire from the Fireplace" & "Rain from the Chimney" this is in Very Good Relic Condition. At the very least the missing corner had very little detail. Has a couple of Sprue or Gate marks easily seen on the photos of the back side.
My relic condition price is $600.00 (There is an extant complete example somewhere which was listed for $6000.00)
Measures 29 inches Long, and 22 inches High.
Weighs 66 Pounds.
