These Miniature Candle Lanterns were popular with children during the 1870's after the American Civil War "Signal Corps Lanterns" came into fame, which were originally whale oil lanterns. This lantern is later Circa 1900 Toy version since it has a flat glass window instead of the earlier normal condenser lens. This Candle Powered Example is Complete with the Clear Glass Lens in the working hinged door as an illuminating flash light with the top exhaust vent cap. Has the original Tin Jug handle on back to use as a Flash Light.
Stands only 4 1/2 inches high, and 2 1/8 inches in base diameter.
