Primitive 12 sided Cast iron Inkwell Marked "Patent" on side with Removable Threaded Lid & Glass Insert ! Circa 1860's to 1870's.
Scalloped pointy top can is the Pen rest for any rotational position.
The Threaded Lid also has a groove with a wrapped string in it to act as a seal for the ink, and dampen the glass from vibration.
Measures 2 1/4 inches High, and 2 7/8 inches in Base Diameter.
Weighs 1 Pound and 5.8 Ounces.
Condition : Overall Cast iron is Undamaged and unscrews easily, but I think the glass insert is a later replacement.
