Extremely beautiful Tunbridge Ware lap desk, dating c.1860. It is made in rare bird’s eye maple, rather than the more customary rosewood. The inclined drop down portion of the desk features an exquisite view of Muckross Abbey, the lift up portion has its own floral pattern, and the whole of the top is bordered by a lovely, wide floral band.
The inside of the box is entirely original, with Tunbridge Ware inkwells, a Tunbridge Wear compartment lid, and a pen tray, all of which lift out. The lock works and has its key. When closed the box measures approximately 12.1” from side to side, 10.0” from front to rear, and 3.2” in height at the highest.
The box is in superb condition, without issues of any kind.
Thanks for visiting.
