Fine Victorian Tunbridge Ware glove box, made c.1850. The box itself is rosewood with an attractive grain. The top is slightly raised, and features a lovely large Berlin wool work design in the center, and a second wool work design at the perimeter of the top. The front, back and sides of the box have a band with a third Berlin wool work design. Inside, the glove box is missing whatever lining it once had and the interior shows the original wood. The same is true of the underside of the lid. There is no key. The box measures approximately 9.7" in length by 4.0" in width, and is 3.0" high at the highest.
Except for the loss of interior lining noted above, the condition of the box is very good. The tessellated mosaic is well preserved. There is a very small piece of wood chipped off long ago, where the lid meets body of the box just about the keyhole.
