This is a Japanese hard paste porcelain cake plate, entirely hand painted. The date is circa 1911 to 1921.
The plate is 9 ¾” by 9 ½” with two open handles at each end. The function is to hold a cake for presentation on the sideboard or at the table.
The rim edge is enameled in brown.
The scene is hand painted and is one of a sailboat on the pink – lavender water, with another sailboat in the background. The foreground shows trees in bloom on the shore, with the colors of blue, lavender and pink, and with green leaves. Across the water are distant gray-lavender hills. The sky is mottled in shades of pink, lavender, gray and yellow.
There are no chips, nicks, cracks or crazing.
The green mark is number 47 with M in the wreath and Hand Painted above and Nippon below.
