This is a stunning art glass vase. It is big enough to display on a side table and hold a large flower arrangement. The maker is Monart, a glassmaker in business during the 1920s in Scotland, which makes the vase circa the 1920s.
The vase was custom made to be inserted inside the brass metal holder. The holder is shaped simply, three bars and three ball feet.
The glass is a beautiful soft blue at the bottom and merging into orange-red towards the middle, and speckled with a dark blue at the neck.
The bottom is a smaller ovoid under the belly so as to fit inside the brass holder. The mouth is flared. The rim is rounded. The pontil is oval, indented, and polished smooth.
The vase is 10" high when sitting in the holder, 9 ¾" high outside of the holder, and 8" wide at the belly.
There are scratches around the base and bottom where the glass has rubbed against the metal holder over the years. There are no chips, nicks or cracks. There are a few glass bubbles, which is part of the glassmaking process.
