This is an American art glass paperweight inkwell with a sterling top. The glassmaker is Pairpoint. The silver maker is Goodnow & Jenks of Boston, Massachusetts. The date range is 1893 to 1905, or circa 1900.
The glass is clear crystal and made with controlled bubbles. The neck is banded with silver and the top is silver. The lid is hallmarked and the Goodnow & Jenks hallmark shows up faintly to the left of the word "Sterling."
The inkwell is 4 3/8" high and 4" wide at the belly.
There is a small ding in the silver top to the left of the hallmark. The silver has tarnish that I did not clean.
The bottom has a round indented and polished pontil. The outer edges of the bottom show a lot of wear, with scratches.
There is some nibbling at the top edge, where the silver sterling band adheres to the mouth of the inkwell, caused by applying the silver band.
There are no chips, nicks or cracks.
