This is a set of French Limoges hard paste porcelain fish plates. Each plate is hand painted and signed by the artist on the front of the plate. The Limoges maker is Mark Demartine. The date is the last part of the 19th century to the first part of the 20th century, circa 1891 to 1905.
The artist's signature reads as "M. Lalane" or perhaps "M. Lalany."
The plates are 8 1/2" in diameter.
The rim of each plate has a band of ornate gold, with curly designs in the gold.
Two fish are painted on each plate, either swimming to the right or to the left, with seaweed or sea plant life dangling from the top of the plate. The fish are painted against shades of blue to represent the water. The remainder of the face of each plate is shaded in soft yellow/green.
One plate has a crack going half way across the face of the plate. I show the crack in a close up photo. There are no other cracks, chips, crazing or gold wear.
The green underglaze mark is Avenir inside a circle with G.D. & Cie above and Limoges France below.
