This is a French Charles Field Haviland Limoges 19th century wash pitcher. The date is circa 1868 to 1876.
The pitcher or jug is 12 ¼” high and 7 ½” wide at the lower part of the handle.
The function is to hold water and was originally part of a wash set.
The pattern is a factory lithographic transfer with added color and shows pink moss roses with brown, green and reddish foliage. The pattern is in a cluster on each side of the pitcher.
There is a small crack in the glaze on the front lower belly, and I show a photo of the defect. There is a small nick on the mouth rim, and I show a photo of the defect. There is wear to the gold trim around the mouth rim, and some on the handle. There are a few glaze marks due to the firing process of using a wood fired kiln. There are no other chips, cracks or crazing.
The impressed mark is CFH for Charles Field Haviland.
