This is a French hard paste porcelain plate that was most likely hand painted in the Women’s Art Movement in the United States. The date is circa 1900.

The plate is 8 7/8”.

The plate is a smooth coupe plate with no rim, glazed white, and the artist painted over the glaze. There are three birds and one large insect or bug, in flight next to long grassy stems with seeds or berries.

There are no nicks, chips, cracks or crazing. There is some age wear to the painting, which shows as bits of missing enamel paint.

There is a printed number 2 on the underside of the plate, used by Limoges makers to designate the size and shape of whiteware.

The artist made a hand enameled notation of B followed by the number 4993 or it might be 4gg3. The number has nothing to do with a possible date but is just some numbering system the artist used.
