This is an English art glass vase, circa 1885.

The vase is 4 ¾” high and the top is 5 ¼” by 5 ¼”. This specific vase was made in different sizes.

The vase is white opal glass. The rim has an applied pale blue trail, is pincered, and finished with a four-way crimp. There is an applied blue glass handle. Below the handle and trailing to the left on the body of the vase is an applied blue glass acanthus leaf, and it is also pincered.

The acanthus leaf was applied with clear glass. To the left of the leaf on the body of the vase is a line of clear glass, about two inches long and it is felt with the fingers as a thin ridge in the glass. The lines of clear glass can be seen through the pale blue glass of the acanthus leaf; these are not cracks, just the edges of the clear glass.

The interior of the vase has some age staining from the vase actually having been used as a flower holder.

There are a few tiny air bubbles. The handle has a few indentations in the glass and the indentations are part of the glassmaking process. On the bottom underside edge there is a small triangle of lines that I show in a photo and which can be felt with the fingers; my guesses are 1) a small piece of glass fell off and the estate glued it back in, and nothing shows in the interior or 2) these are age lines that happen to form a triangle, and nothing shows in the interior.

There are no chips, nicks or cracks, no other flaws other than the ones I mentioned.

The pontil is round, indented and polished.
