This is an English hard paste porcelain chocolate pot. The maker is Royal Worcester. The date is circa 1893.
The pot is 8 ½” high to the top of the finial and 6 ½” from spout-to-handle.
The interior of the pot and the underside of the lid are glazed white; the outer sides are a pale beige color.
A company artist painted exquisite and beautiful flowers on the front, lid and back, along with stems and leaves. These are NOT transfer patterns. The flowers are varied, large and small, different colors, and may be roses, poppies, daisies, etc.
The handle and finial are covered in gold. The edges and bottom are trimmed in gold. A company gilder applied the gold.
There is an age line at the top, back side, and it is on both sides of the porcelain. It was difficult to photograph but I think I got one close-up photo. There is no crazing, nicks, chips or other flaws. Because of the age line crack, I am pricing the pot low; someone will want to own the pot despite the flaw because it is extremely well-painted with artist and gilder marks.
There are numerous company marks on the bottom of the pot and under the lid. The standard purple printed maker’s mark has a crown on top, Royal Worcester England below with one dot at each end (so two dots total), and below that Made for Abram French Boston; this mark is on the bottom of the pot and lid. On both pot and lid, hand enameled in red, are the initials CR, which is probably the artist. Hand enameled in black on both pot and lid are NI, or maybe it is IN, or maybe the I is a 1. The bottom of the pot also has a single hand enameled letter or number that I can’t make out.
