This is a French Limoges hard paste porcelain plate. The maker is Jean Pouyat. The date is circa 1914 to 1932.

The plate is 9 5/8”, the size of a dinner plate.

The interior of the plate is glazed white. The rim is glazed a deep cobalt blue. The gold trim is ornate and elegant, and it would have been quite labor intensive at the factory to apply the gold trim. The outer band has impressed designs in the gold. At even spaces, to match the edge shapes, the gold pattern comes down to a point over the cobalt. Beneath the outer band is a transfer pattern of gold leaves and stems. A gold pattern is centered in the middle of the plate.

There is some gold wear to the inner line between the cobalt and white glazes. Along the edge of the plate the cobalt shows through here and there. There are no chips, nicks, cracks or crazing.

The green maker’s mark is J.P. over L. with France underneath. The overglaze factory decorating mark is the green wreath containing in gold the words J. Pouyat Limoges.
