This is one of eight framed and artist hand painted bird tiles I have listed in my shop. The tiles were obtained from an estate. I am told the artist is local to my area, Oregon, a female, no longer painting, and that she painted birds she saw in the Pacific Northwest on tiles and canvas. Her signature is “AM”; I was not able to find her full name. The date is the last quarter of the 20th century.
This specific tile is #1 of 8.
The tile is porcelain and glazed on the top surface. The painting is under the glaze. The frame is custom made to fit the tile and is a stained wood. The tile and the frame have dimensions of around 7” x 7” x 5/8”. There is a hook at the top back so that the tile can be hung on a wall.
A few of the tiles have the maker’s mark impressed into the clay on the back.
The painting is of a pair of pine grosbeaks sitting on a pine bough. The pair appear to be a male and a female. Someone wrote in pencil on the back of the tile the identification of the birds.
The artist’s signature is at the bottom center.
There are no chips, nicks, cracks. The framed tile is in good condition.
