This is a French Haviland & Co Limoges small hard paste porcelain set of an oval platter with four plates. The set can be used for breakfast, lunch, salad or dessert. The date is circa 1879 to 1889.
The platter is 13” long, 9” wide and 1 5/8” high. The plates are about 7 3/8”.
The pattern is a multifloral transfer, or sometimes referred to as a botanical series. Haviland generally used twelve different floral combinations to make up a set. This is what remains of the original set. There are five pieces to the set, however one pattern is repeated so there are only four of the floral combinations.
Two plates have stacking wear on the pattern; these are the two plates with the repeat pattern. One plate has a large blemish in the glaze on the underside of the plate. I show photos. There are no nicks, chips, cracks or crazing. There is some wear to the gold line trim around the white glaze centers of each plate and platter. Otherwise this is a nice set for how old it is.
The black underglaze mark is H&Co underscored by L. The black overglaze factory decorating mark is Haviland & Co Limoges inside a double circle.
