This is a French Limoges Haviland & Co hard paste porcelain small relish dish. The date is the 19th century, circa 1876 to 1880.
The dish is 8 ½” long, 4 ½” wide and 1 1/8” deep.
The relish is factory decorated in the category of Meadow Visitors, a category meant for the birds, bees, butterflies, dragonflies and insects hovering around foliage, and a variety of transfer prints used by Haviland.
The dish is quite elegant, with raised edges at the ends and covered in gleaming gold. Around the rim is a different colorful butterfly, sprays of foliage, and a band of green leaves with red lines. On the bottom interior is a pink and white rose, and the flower is embellished with strokes of white enamel applied by hand at the factory.
There are no chips, nicks, cracks or crazing. There is no fading to the gold.
The green underglaze mark is H&Co. The blue overglaze factory decorating mark is Haviland & Co Limoges inside a double circle.
