German novelty made Vesta case, c1900 [ it says on the main dial just below the subsidiary seconds dial, Bavaria. ] and then on the dial, by ‘’Moko’’. It is silver plated, on brass, patented No. 195169 side opening ‘look – a – like’ Pocket Watch Vesta case. The white enameled face is very realistic having a calibrated enamel dial just like the real thing, having Roman numerals to show 5 min intervals, and all the intermediate minutes, and individual hours, and it even has a separate subsidiary seconds dial positioned at 6 o'clock. Original watch parts have been used. The case measures 47 mm o/s diameter, without the chain ring, and weighs 30 gms. altogether.
This Vesta has on its right side a slide opening to withdraw your safety match. This opening is in the form of a slide positioned between 5min to 12 min. past the hour, note a ‘finger nail pull’ sticking up fixed to the uppermost section of the slide when it is in a closed position. The surface of the slide is a safety match strike surface. The central ‘watch’ border is also calibrated with a decorative concave ribbing. There is a top watch chain ring provided to complete this novelty Vesta’s useful features, so for the smoker it could be attached to one’s real watch chain as a useful accessory being conveniently made accessible for frequent access and use. This item is in very good original condition. There is silver plate wear to the case, see pictures provided. This wear has been had from frequent use of the Vesta. No rust or repairs.
