Italian hand carved Conch shell portrait Cameo Broach set in a scalloped shaped 9ct Gold frame which is hallmarked in Birmingham, England, assay office in 1987.
The shell is signed, inscribed ‘Goya’ on the reverse of the shell, by the Italian Workmaster who carved it.
The portrait carved shell is set in a beautiful scalloped edged 9ct Gold frame. This frame is simply polished. However it is decoratively enhanced with two fine, spirally twisted gold wires, applied in a 'rope' pattern, hugging tightly all around the lower collar edge. This seems to create a three ‘d’ affect, and thus concentrates the eye on the Cameo carving, and clearly separates the scalloped edge fancy gold frame from the Cameo setting, thus giving one three dimensions to look at.
The gold frame is Hallmarked on its reverse base edge and was assayed in Birmingham, England, 1987. The photo of the frame reverse also shows a small attached gold round ring top centre, to which one can if one so wishes, attach a fine safety chain and pin for extra security.
