King Charles Spaniel Staffordshire Pottery Dog with separate moulded leg. Rare small model with separate leg. Long ears, Collar and Padlock. This cute Antique 19th Century dog made with two piece mold and separate leg mold applied after the two body pieces put together. Having been covered with Wedgwood's famous Pearlware glaze then painted on with patches of copper green paint, which in turn, are over painted with translucent pink lustre. This Antique Pottery Dog Survives to this day in very good condition. It has a very unusual and intriguing feature situated on its left separate foreleg, of three incised parallel lines about ½" to ¾" long. I've never seen this feature before ! How interesting ! The glazed body surface displays the typical commonplace manufacturers features that a lot of Staffordshire dogs have. Like tiny glaze bursts due to metal impurities being present and being burnt by the high firing temperatures in the kilns. Tiny pieces of waste clay particles being picked up by the models before firing. See pic. of base. Small – tiny paint splashes and small firing cracks, Where, once again the pottery body cracks due to high kiln temperatures.
Sizes. 4, ¾" high. x base 3, ½" long x 2, ½" wide. 15cms high x base 8.9cms. x 6cms wide.
Weights. 7.4ozs. or 215gms.
