I look at this piece and wonder how something so large and beautiful survived this 130+ years yet retained its lovely glossy sheen! This large piece has the green H&Co / L back-stamp dating it to the small space of 7 years between 1875 & 1882. Also the Haviland & Co in red with a barely visible Limoges beneath it!
But it has survived with very little to show for it advanced years. A tiny chip on the tip of one side of the lid handle and some loss of the gold trim in all the right places! It measures a huge 10 1/2 inches across the furthest points on the oval bowl (11 1/2" on the lid) and is 5" to the top of the bowl and nearly 7 1/2" to the top of the knob on the lid. Pattern is pink flowers or blossom with brown or rust colored stems and outlines. Lids edge is ruffled and much design on both it and bowl are raised. Tureen is offset and has a lovely ruffle on the knob!
I can't imagine color and sheen being any better than it is. Some wear on bowl from decades of the lid being slide inside into place but this is a piece that has been loved and cared for! This is one of those rare beauties that belongs to a collector that can really enjoy it!
