Very beautiful hanging Victorian French lace silk ribbonwork pincushion. I was told this pincushion was brought back from France in the 1920s and given as a gift to the precious owner who has had it stored for many decades!
The lace looks like handmade Point de Gaze lace but I am not an expert on lace. The large 3" long lace ruffle that goes all the way around which also looks like handmade lace. The back is quilted like and was covered at one time in silk but has mostly worn away with age.
There is silk ribbon held in place with tiny pins all the way around with three large silk ribbon bows at each corner. There is silk ombre ribbon work on the front and tiny clear glass beading. There is wear to the ribbonwork and I cannot tell if any beads are missing.
There is a few tiny breaks in the Point de Gaze like lace on the pincushion. The ribbon bows have some shattering and the left top corner has some holes in the lace border which are difficult to detect due to the gathering.
The pincushion is quite firm and measures 9" across NOT including the 3" lace ruffle.
