Vintage Art Deco Sterling Fruit Salad Marcasite Clip Brooch. This is a gorgeous dress clip, full of fire and sparkle! In all likelihood it is of German or Austrian origin. It dates to the 1930s. The inside of the clip is marked 935 denoting its silver content slightly above sterling. The motif is floral, but the lines are very angular and evocative of the graphic Art Deco styling used by F*hrner and other German manufacturers. The carved glass fruit salad stones and bead accents are the color of deep coral. There are 66 (two are missing) individually hand bead-set marcasites. The craftsmanship found in these early pieces of costume jewelry is just incredible.
The clip measures 7/8 of an inch wide by 1-1/8 inches tall. Condition is very good. Two marcasites are missing and there is a chip in the molded leaf fruit salad. This can be seen in my pics, which are super magnified. The clip mechanism is sturdy and functional.
