Antique 14K Art Nouveau Moonstone & Pearl Brooch. I don't know what could be more romantic than a moonstone. Most cultures associate moonstone with moonlight and it's not hard to see why...there is a truly dreamy quality to it. Pair that with the unique fluidity of the Art Nouveau style and you've got something quite delightful.
This exceptional antique brooch dates to the 1905-1910 time period. It features the flowing curvilinear design that was so often seen in Art Nouveau jewelry. The brooch is set with a beautiful clear moonstone cabochon which shows distinct flashes of blue. It is accented by four natural freshwater button pearls on a curled tendril of gold border.
The moonstone measures 13.25 mm X 9.5mm X 6.8 mm and is estimated at 6 carats. The pearls average 2.7mm in diameter. The brooch in its entirety is 1-1/8 inches wide by 1 inch tall. Weight is a hefty 6.4 grams.
On the back, the cuffed c-clasp is marked 14K and is sufficiently curled to hold the pin stem very securely. There is a watch hook which can also allow the brooch to be worn on a chain as a pendant (which is stunning by the way!). There is no maker's mark although I am certain that this brooch is American and very likely a Newark piece. The craftsmanship is remarkable and its condition is excellent.
