Antique Victorian 14K Pink & Blue Sapphire Circle Brooch Pin. Try as I might, I just could not capture the sparkle and color of these sapphires in this delightful late Victorian brooch! I have not seen another like it.
Although diminutive in size at 7/8ths of an inch, this circular pin is not shy. Dating to the 1890-1901 time frame, it features 5 steel blue Montana sapphires, 5 bright pink sapphires, and 20 tiny natural pearls. The pearls are likely American freshwater but they have not been tested for origin.
Each of the sapphires is hand set with six delicately pointed prongs and the tiny pearls are white and lustrous. At an average of 3.5 mm in diameter, the blue sapphires have an estimated total weight of 1 carat, and the pink sapphires (average 3.25 mm) have an estimated total weight of .80 carat.
The closure is a curled c-clasp and the ball hinge is era appropriate. The brooch is not marked (also era appropriate) but it has been fully tested to 14 karat gold. Its condition is excellent. It is an exquisitely showy piece that will quickly become your favorite!
