Frame Print 16" by 19". First edition. Signed by artist in pencil Nene and his signature, Stanley Stearns. There were 665 First Edition Print copies. Total stamps issued were 1,573,155. Issued 7/1/1964. US Scott RW31. This print and stamp were framed by the Lu-EV Gift Mart in Easton Md just like the other Federal duck stamp First Edition Prints I will be listing here. This was Stearns 2nd win in the Federal Duck stamp competition. I also have his 3rd win , the 1966 Whistling Swans, First Edition Print and stamp I will be listing. Paper tag on the back is signed by Stearns (in blue ink) and reads: "This print is an original stone lithograph done in exactly the same manner as those of daumier and Toulouse-Lautrec of the last century. The crayon drawing was made directly on the stone in mirror image by the artist. the stone was inked and the impressions were pulled by hand by Geo. Miller & son on artists' quality Rives heavy paper. Each impression was inspected, titled signed and numbered by the artist". There is no number on this print . I don't know if the framing cover it or if Stearns did not number. The Nene Geese stamp was engraved by the Federal Bureau of Engraving from the original artwork using cerulean blue, khaki, yellow and black ink. Overall condition is great. Part of the brown paper from the back has ripped and is not off. I'm debating about taping it back on or just leave as is.
