Antique pair of Splendid and Exquisitely executed Silver plate cauldron shaped open salts from Sheffield, 19th century
Exquisitely etched and lavishly decorated these pieces speak to the high decorating and entertaining style of the period. All about details...they show wide foliate bands with marvelously decorated sphinx head legs that rest on paw shaped feet...they are Superb. Made in pairs as was often the case, multiple unmatched pairs were often mixed and matched to exquisitely set a dining table. Today, we would do the same...and when not used on the dining table they would also be elegant to serve with sweets and nuts or for small soaps in a powder room or set with candles... Superbly elegant, you and your family will enjoy their beauty for many years to come for they are Great on Style.
