History: Galactic concept jewelry by Trifari began most notably in 1944 with designer Alfred Philippe's "shooting comet" jewelry design. Elaborate rhinestone studded creations typical of the 1940's and 1950's elegant style were marketed. Design concept names such as "Meteor" and "Shooting Star" emerged in the 1960's. With the impending space travel age of the 1960's these were popular. Later, they slowly evolved into more simple futuristic and streamlined designs such as the spinning comet and some other variations. They were sometimes made with gold tone, silver tone or enameled finishes into the 1970's and 80's such as the jewelry set featured here.
