An early 19th c. secretaire à abbattant made of solid figured walnut with a large dovetailed drawer above a drop down desk opening to an interior with six small drawers and three secret compartments. Two small cabinet doors below open to storage with one shelf. Mortise and tenon joints with pegged construction. The abbattant is sturdy as it is mounted with iron hinges. Beautiful honey color with waxed patina. An old letter was found in one of the drawers. 53"h x 34"w 16"d. The opening depth is 33.5" when the abbattant is down.
