This museum worthy painting was purchased from the previous owner in the 1970's from the Warren family of Virginia. The purchase was defined by the fact that the original provenance was included. The artist remains anonymous. His or her talents are clearly evident and identified as being likely trained and certainly brilliant. The unidentified lady portrayed was likely the matriarch of this affluent southern family.
The painting on canvas accompanies a work of art in its own right. That would be a hand- carved court frame with all the bells and whistles.
With the frame this masterpiece piece measures 34 x 38 inches.
