No date but c. 1880. PAGES, well boxed and with bright gilt edges: xv (Contents and Preface by Dr. Eadie) + 8 page 'Family Register' + 1203 (Old & New Testaments) + Chronological Index + Harmony of the Gospels + Appellations given to the church of Gof in the scriptures + Measures, Weights & Coins + 34 page Biblical Cyclopaedia + 47 pages 'Psalms in metre' with Index + 10 pages 'Translations & Paraphrases in verse of several passages + 5 Hymns. ILLUSTRATIONS: 10 full page colour plates including one colour map + 16 sepia full page illustrations by Gustav Doré + 8 page Family Register illustrated in two tones. All plates have tissue guards. CONDITION: Tight binding. The brass corner trims and the two brass hinges are in place and undamaged, bright with the hinges in perfect working order. There is very minor wear to the leather cover on the front and rear boards with light rubbing to the rounded beveled edges. There is more rubbing evident along the sides of the banded spine with short closed splits at the top and base of the front edge now beginning to show - these splits are not open yet and the boards are securely attached to the spine. The gilt lettering and decoration on the front board and on the spine have slightly dulled. Very pleasing bright, clean unmarked pages of text which are free from brown spotting. Comprehensive notes at the foot of each page and cross references in two central margins. There is brown spotting on a few of the pages and on the blank endpapers and also in the margins of the plates. The tissue guards are excellent, being mostly free from foxing and all are uncreased which suggests that the bible has had minimal use.. The Family Register has not been filled in with the exception of two inscriptions on the Death Notice page which list Alfred James Cutts died September 13th 1915 at 2:45 a.m. at Felixstowe ( United Kingdom) and Emma Maria Cutts died 7th of May 1927 at 11:45 p.m. Ipswich (Mass) Aged 71. All pages are unmarked. This bible has no inscriptions other than what is pointed out. WEIGHT: 5.44 kg unpackaged. SIZE: 10" /25cm X 13" /32.5 cm X 3 1/4" / /8.5 cm approx.
